Little Leap
Forward is
Horse
+ Bamboo’s
second show for family audiences following the success of the
award-winning
In The Shadow of Trees
and has been developed as a creative partnership with
Barefoot Books Ltd
and
The Royal Exchange Theatre.
It is based on the original story Little Leap Forward,co-written by
Guo
Yue and
Clare
Farrow,published
by
Barefoot Books.
Little Leap Forward tells
the story of Guo Yue and his childhood in China during the
Cultural Revolution. It is a
story about family, friendships and creative expression, but above all
the need for freedom. For ages 8 +Guo
Yue is now based in the UK and is an internationally acclaimed bamboo
flute player.
Directed by Alison Duddle, with set design by Bob Frith, the story
incorporates mask, puppetry, shadows and animation with original music
by Loz Kaye. The music also includes the distinctive flute playing of
Guo Yue (recorded).
"Little
Leap Forward bears witness with the eye of a poet, the ear of a
musician and the transformative imagination of a storyteller".
